Epicor Software is increasing investment in its channel. The effort stems from one of the strategies adopted under private equity firm KKR, which purchased the Austin, Texas-based company in July. "You don't expand globally as a software company without very strong partners," CEO Joe Cowan said in a conference call this week.

Avalara is seeking a SOHO partner program director. The Seattle, Wash.-based sales tax software vendor says the person hired will develop the channel for organizations that sell to businesses with five or fewer employees. The job description and needed qualifications sound like the kinds of things you'd expect for such an opening.

Last week, Sage issued a press release about the introduction of five cloud products globally. The problem is the information issued was about as wispy as a cloud. Some products—or new versions—were released in the United States, but not in the rest of the world. Or it went the other way around—available elsewhere, but not here. Sage did itself a disservice.

Abila has selected Craig Charlton as CEO, replacing Krista Endsley, who had led the Austin, Texas-based nonprofit software company since its founding. Endsley was CEO since it was formed in March 2013 following its purchase from Sage by Accel-KKR.

Acumatica continues to attract talent from around the channel. It has signed Mansfield, Ohio-based Algorithm, a long-time Macola VAR. Algorithm owner Mike Oswalt is in attendance at the Acumatica Summit this week at the La Jolla Hyatt near San Diego, Calif. There are plenty of resellers present who were once Sage loyalists.

Acumatica intends to market to the CPA community to build its brand awareness. The Seattle, Wash-based software company says that it needs to increase CPA awareness because of the number of times businesses turn to their accountants for advice.

The installed base in the United States lags other major markets in moving from license sales to subscriptions, Sage said this week. That came as the United Kingdom-based company issued its trading update for the first quarter ended December 31. The company reported growth of 5.1 percent over the year-earlier quarter.

For the first time in several quarters, Dynamics CRM (and CRM Online) was not cited as the revenue driver for the Dynamics line. In its SEC filings this week, Microsoft said that for the second quarter ended December 31 Dynamics revenue was up 7 percent, "driven by Dynamics 365 revenue growth. "
