RANDOM THOUGHTS: STAR TREK

The late Leonard Nemoy, Star Trek's SpockDonald Trump momentarily forgot where he was during Fox News' GOP presidential debate this week. He turned to the nine other candidates and intoned "You're fired." Contenders are trying to disqualify him from running stating that while he was born in the United States, his hair was born in China, so he's not completely a native-born citizen. Actually, voters are so unhappy with both parties they are looking for evidence all were born outside this country. ... Massachusetts police are using a form on Facebook to urge drug dealers to turn in information on competitors. Facebook has added a new button to its usual choice of "Like" and "Unlike", adding "Rat Out".

.... It's hot and dry in the dog days of summer in New Jersey. Our dog looked outside and said, "I have nothing to do with this" and went back to licking himself. ... There's a new opera "Star Trek" in which the crew of the enterprise sing their story of expeditions to where no man has gone before. In a particular poignant moment,  Spock sings the moving "Nobody Knows the Tribbles I've Seen." Bones performs the comic "Damnit, Jim, I'm a doctor not a lyric baritone" while in preparation for a massive battle, Worf, from the Star Trek, the Next Generation, leads members from his planet in "Rip 'em up, tear 'em up, give 'em hell, Klingons. ... After being criticized for its slow response to the issue of player concussions, the National Football League pointed to its suspension of time Brady for four games for inflating footballs last year as demonstrating its ability to immediately respond to critical issues.
