RANDOM THOUGHTS: RUDOLPH

Rudolph and ClariceFormer Illinois Governor Rod Blogoyevich has filed what is viewed as a last-ditch appeal of his prison term for corruption. Even more galling to Blago than the 14-year sentence is that he has been forced to endure a number of bad-hair days. ... The news that the formerly powerful uncle of North Korea's president Kim Jong-un has been executed shook up some people. And you thought your family reunions were testy. Well, I bet his family won't be sending Christmas cards to the president. Apparently, the president felt insulted when his late uncle referred to him as "Lil' Kim". ... Was looking at outdoor Christmas displays at Home Depot. There's a two-to-three foot-tall figure of Yoda, fixed up with bulbs and a light saber, for sale.

Nothing says Christmas like Star War figures. "Christmas, Merry and New Year, Happy too," says the inscrutable one. Another lit display has various Star Wars characters pummeling Jar Jar Binks. And a fitting tribute to the season of peace is a figure of one of the Angry Birds. ... The cast of "Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer" is planning to gather next year for the fiftieth reunion of the 1964 debut of the stop action animation movie. Since then, the Abominable Snow Monster has lost his teeth and the Hermie the Elf fitted him for dentures; Yukon Cornelius spent time in a federal prison for a scam involving gold and silver sales; Sam the Snowman made the tragic mistake of trying to winter in Florida; Clarice left Rudolph for an elk and the title character had a nose job and now just wants to be known as Rudy. ... Love this time of year, the chill in the air, the "V" of Canadian geese flying aimlessly as if they were really going to migrate. Scientists say geese actively communicate information. You can hear it now "Hey, Fred. Where are we going?" "I don't know. I guess we'll just have to stay here another year." ... Told my wife I want the "Holiday Cheer" DVD bundle of "Criminal Minds", "Dexter" and a retrospective of "Homicide, Life on the Street."
