LORI KLAUS GETS COMBINED EPICOR VP JOBS

There wasn't any publicity about the move Epicor made in giving Lori Klaus, VP of worldwide sales, the additional responsibility of worldwide consulting. At Jefferies 3rd Annual Technology Conference this week, CFO Michael Pietrini was discussing how the Epicor board of directors asked former CEO George Klaus to return and showed the door to Tom Kelly, who left in February after 11 months on the job.

Pietrini was describing how Klaus is decisive and gave the example of his decision making in giving Lori Klaus the combined jobs. You may remember that George Klaus married the EVP a couple of years ago. I have this image of talk around the Klaus dinner table: “Honey, remember to pick up the milk at the store.” “I will. And would you like to be EVP of worldwide consulting?” Pietrini’s comments may shed further light on why Tom Kelly is no longer CEO. Pietrini, who came from the sales side, noted that when he got the job the company had been without a CFO for a year (Kelly also held that job). And while Kelly vigorously fought a hostile tender offer by the Elliott Group, a venture fund, Klaus earlier described how he began talking to Elliott and got the fund to limit its stock purchases and gave its two seats on an enlarged board of directors. I would also note that about a year ago at Epicor’s Perspectives user conference, Kelly gave me one of the snottiest answers I’ve ever gotten from a senior executive to a question I asked in public. My kind of guy.
