MICROSOFT ACQUIRES POSTGRESQL VENDOR Featured

Rohan Kumar, MicrosoftMicrosoft has purchased Citus Data, whose offering is anopen source extension to PostgreSQL. Microsoft says Citus transforms PostgreSQL into a distributed database and that the deal is another step in its commitment to Azure as an open platform.

This follows on Microsoft’s making Azure Database for MySQL and Azure Database for PostgreSQL generally available in March 2018 and its acquisition in June of GitHub for $7.5 billion. Citus is available as a fully-managed database as a service, as enterprise software, and as a free open source download. “Working together, we will accelerate the delivery of key, enterprise-ready features from Azure to PostgreSQL and enable critical PostgreSQL workloads to run on Azure with confidence,” Rohan Kumar, corporate VP of Azure Data, said in a prepared statement.
