EPICOR BUYING SOLARSOFT

Shawn McMorran, SolarsoftEpicor Software is buying Solarsoft in what can be termed a private-equity-to-private-equity play. Epicor, owned by Apax Partners, is buying Solarsoft Business Systems from Marlin Equity Partners.

Solarsoft specializes in midmarket ERP and management systems for manufacturing and distribution. The deal is expected to close in 45 days and since both parties are private, I assume we won’t hear about the price. Epicor described the deal as enabling it to accelerate “initiatives in the highly regulated food and beverage, pharmaceuticals and healthcare industries.” It also said buying Solarsoft would aid it with development of SaaS and managed services lines. Solarsoft has annual revenue of about $90 million and employs more than 400 and has almost 1,200 customers. Solarsoft assumed its current name in November 2007 following an earlier merger of Toronto-based CMS Software and XKO Software, based in the United Kingdom. Its CEO, Shawn McMorran, joined the company in November 2006 after spending 12 years with Sungard Data Systems and was Group President when he left there in 2006 to establish a practice for advising portfolio investors in technology companies. He is also an operating partner for Marlin Equity.
