According to sources familiar with the discussion, Master VARs need to develop a network of 25 to 30 dealers that fall under their umbrella. The Master VAR program is the second plan investigated by Microsoft, which toyed with the idea of a franchise program for several months before deciding that option was a no go. As outlined at the Worldwide Partner Conference this summer by channel executive Jeff Edwards, as many as 650 Dynamics resellers could lose authorization over the next year and there is speculation that the number could go much higher.
