ABILA SELLING TO ASSOCIATIONS Featured

Erin Shy, AbilaA new initiative for software vendor Abila is to sell its nonprofit applications to associations. The market has been opened up with this year's purchase of Abila and its MIP fund accounting line by the newly formed Community Brands.

"Associations in the past have not needed robust fund accounting," says Erin Shy, EVP of nonprofit solutions and Abila GM. However, the needs of associations are growing more complicated. "One of the things we are doing is taking our MIP product and cross selling into the association market," Shy says. Community Brands formed in April with the purchase of Abila and Aptify, an association management application. Community Brands was built on the structure of another association management software company, Your Membership. In August, the new company acquired another membership package, Configio. Despite the number of association applications the parent markets, Abila still represents a big chunk of Community Brands' business. "Half of our customers are in the nonprofit solutions group," Shy says.
