TRANSFORM EXPO: PAYMENTS CITY Featured

The most notable thing about the Sage Transform Expo was the proliferation of payment companies as exhibitors. This has been the trend in the last two or so years at all ERP conferences I attended.

I counted 21 payments companies out of the 73 or on exhibitors/sponsors on appropriate web page. That includes five of eight platinum sponsors (the fourth-priciest level). A couple of people asked why the explosion of payments companies have responded with the same observation, “No one company has all the pieces.” If you add in the spend management, expense management and payroll companies, the profile of the show floor appears much different than a few years ago. My memory is previously there were more industry-focused products—manufacturing, construction and more specialized vertical market applications being exhibited.  (along with fewer eCommerce, CRM and hardware companies). But as  vendors like Sage and Acumatica have subsumed manufacturing, construction and eCommerce into their core platform, the environment is probably not too good for those trying to compete at that level. You also have to add to the payment list, companies offering product involving paying something or someone, including four payroll and six more that fall into the purview of corporate finance departments, among then spend management, expense management and collections.
