RIMINI TO PAY ORACLE $9.7M Featured

Rimini Street has agreed to pay Oracle about $9.7 million for legal costs Oracle has incurred.

The costs include attorney’s fees that Oracle had sought because of contempt proceedings it had sought, alleging Rimini violated a permanent injunction issued in November 2018. Since 2010, Oracle, which sought about $12.2 million in costs, has aggressively and successfully pursued legal action against Rimini for repeatedly infringing on its software copyrights and been awarded $90 million in damages. The conflict is complicated with Oracle saying that Rimini has been found to be a repeated infringer, while a June press release from Rimini said it had many court wins over Oracle, which was at one point ordered to repay more than $34 million. The $9.7 million payment stemmed from an agreement between the companies and payment was made on December 7. Oracle agreed its motion regarding contempt was moot and withdrew it. Rimini provides third-party support of Oracle and SAP software and is a Salesforce and AWS partner. Oracle has contended that Rimini utilized stole Oracle’s software and support materials. Rimini holds the actions are aimed at limiting its offering services that are 50 percent of what Oracle charges.
