EXEC MOVEMENT AT AVALARA Featured

Avalara has hired Sean Flynn as SVP of global sales. But while it created that new position also notable is that two of three leaders who joined in February 2019 are gone.

President and COO Amit Mathradas stepped into the CEO job at Nintex in March. Chief product officer Sanjay Parasarathy left in January. The one remaining person from the three execs hired four years ago is CFO Ross Tennenbaum. Avalara was acquired in October by Vista Equity Partners for $8.4 billion so movement in executive jobs are hardly a surprise. Flynn reports to chief revenue officer Kimberly Deobold who joined the indirect tax software company in January and Deobold’s and Flynn’s hiring suggests the emphasis on boosting revenue that you’d expect after a buyout. Flynn was previously chief customer officer for InStride from September 2019 through November 2022. Before that, he was US CEO of Gympass from April 2018 through August 2019. Flynn worked for 14 years 10 months at IBM and was VP of global software sales from June 2014 through March 2018. Parthasarathy is one of the co-owners of the Seattle Orcas and along with other Seattle area executives, including Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, is working to establish big league cricket in the area.
