SHOW MUST GO ON, BUT HOW? Featured

In-person conferences have been the norm since the second half of the year began. One exception was Microsoft Inspire, which was completely virtual in early July.

But in quick succession, Epicor, Acumatica and the AICPA Engage events were held in Vegas and later this year, Oracle OpenWorld, Oracle NetSuite SuiteWorld and Sage Transform (the renamed Intacct Advantage) head to the Strip. The question is how will attendees respond to the Delta variant of the COVID-19 virus. The pandemic had already cut into the exhibitor list at the late July Engage. Wolters Kluwer decided to sponsor the show to support it, according to a spokesperson. But its CCH operations did not exhibit because the parent is still restricting travel and is limiting its annual CCH Connections conference in Austin, Texas, to 600 attendees from October 27 through 29. ADP was also a sponsor at Engage but had no booth with representatives showing up without one—the company had been caught in the quandary of go or no-go.  And with virtual attendees boosting turnout at events, there’s a question of just how much needs to be in-person. Acumatica had 2,500 in-person attendees and another 1,000 watching remotely. But the company has decided to go completely virtually with the 2021 R2 rollout, an event that was historically held in person Massachusetts couple with an analyst day and which drew a relatively small turnout. But Acumatica had 2,500 online for last year’s virtual launch of Acumatica 2021 R2 so the company had to weigh an all-day even with much smaller attendance for two hours and 15 minutes online. It’s going virtual. But you can still go back to Vegas for Acumatica’s next Summit January 23 through 28.
