RANDOM THOUGHTS: LAS VEGAS

Las Vegas is such a customer-oriented town. Why, in this week's visit, I was walking The Strip and saw a mobile billboard proclaiming "Hot Babes Direct to You." What friendly people!

RANDOM THOUGHTS: OBAMA, ELI MANNING

The Democratic convention on Thursday beat out the Giants football game for TV viewership. I think it was when Obama went for fourth and long on a quarterback sneak that won over the crowd. Plus quarterback Eli Manning’s speech on foreign policy and health care turned off the fans at Giants stadium.

RANDOM THOUGHTS: PRINCE HARRY

I don’t see why there is such an uproar in Great Britain over naked pictures of Prince Harry. After all, tourists by the millions come to the country to view the royal, excuse me, crown jewels. The 27-year old defended his actions saying, "I have nothing to hide." The pictures were published by a Rupert Murdoch newspaper, the "Sun". It's good to see that newspapers continue to take a stand on the important issues of our era.

RANDOM THOUGHTS: GAYLORD OPRYLAND

Someone asked me if the charges for the ATM at the Gaylord Opryland hotel in Nashville were high. I replied, “Well, it demanded ‘Give me all your money and don’t say anything.’” I won’t say that the two scoops of gelato I got for $6.01 were small, but the server offered me a magnifying glass along with my spoon. The Gaylord is home to the broadcast booth of WSM radio.

  RANDOM THOUGHTS: THE OLYMPICS

Watching the Olympics, I yearn for the old days in competition with the Soviet bloc athletics, back when men were men and so were women. For the next competition in Rio, there will be a new demonstration sport, rhythmic synchronized bowling in which competitors are judged on style and how they balance their beer cans.

RANDOM THOUGHTS: SODOR AND MORDOR

In a tragic error in communications, instead of being dispatched to the Island of Sodor, Thomas the Tank Engine and his friends were sent to the land of Mordor. In future episodes they will be working under the name “The Orc Express.” … My wife told me that one reason presidential campaign Mitt Romney went to England was that his wife owns half a horse entered in the Olympics.

The report that Rolling Stone Mick Jagger has had sex with more than 4,000 women puts him into an unchallengeable spot for winning the Wilt Chamberlain Lifetime Achievement Award. And this was a guy who complained he couldn't get no satisfaction. ...In the next in the series, Ice Age – Global Warming, the animals desperately try to find new habitat.

  RANDOM THOUGHTS; THE HIGGS BOSON

Scientists have announced the detection of the Higgs boson particle which is key to understanding the behavior of matter. I want to announce my discovery of the Bozo particle. It explains a lot about the behavior of people I’ve worked with.
