Passport kept up development under a license, as I recall. There are few details on the Passport site other than the headlines: "Coming soon for Passport Business Solutions Users! Your Passport Business Solutions accounting software, hosted - secure in Passport's new RealWorld Cloud." My Google search brought up an Accounting Technology news item from that period saying the deal was valued at about $19.9 million, and oh yes, I wrote it. To refresh memories, PBS has modules for distribution, retail and manufacturing and has a SQL Version. I don't think the word "cloud" was in general use when RealWorld exited.
REALWORLD CLOUD COMING Featured
The words "RealWorld Cloud Coming" on the website of the Passport Software home page were a bit jarring. But there they are on the home page at www.pass-port.com. For those who have not been in this field forever, the Passport Business Solutions application is the old RealWorld Classic kept alive and nurtured. Great Plains purchased RealWorld before the death of the dinosaurs, actually in March 2000 after the world did not end with Y2K (although the RealWorld package quickly was killed).
