Founded in 1998 by CEO Fran Craig, the company has been headquartered in Loudon County since 2003. In a prepared statement, Craig said the company is committed to keeping its software development in Loudon County. Unanet said it also has "has extensive plans for expanding its workforce as well" but did not provide any numbers of new jobs that might be added. The company offers on-premise and cloud versions of its applications.

Unanet has opened a new headquarters in Dulles, Loudon County, Va. The $7.3-million expansion is said to be a response to accelerated growth from sales of its project financial software for professional services firms, particularly government contractors, which was released in July 2015.
