The capability will be generally available soon. It will be rolled out to new customers with the Shopfiy installed base being converted in blocks of companies over time. Kushniruk believes the companies will come to expect sales tax calculations will be part of accounting and ecommerce products over the next five or so years. Customers will be able to choose to use other Avalara products and can link to services such as return filing via a link within Shopify. Avalara says the system can handle small businesses with few transactions up through those with hundreds of millions of transactions.
AVALARA EMBEDDED IN SHOPIFY Featured
Avalara's Compliance Cloud system has been embedded in Shopify Plus. It is a relationship that the sales and use tax company hopes will become a model for ecommerce. Shopify wrote the integration for the cloud application so that Avalara will automatically calculate tax for each invoice line item in real time in the Shopify Plus shopping cart. "Anybody that becomes a Shopify customer becomes an Avalara customer," says Marshall Kushniruk, Avalara's EVP of global business development.
