RANDOM THOUGHTS: THANKSGIVING

Thanksgiving reminded me again that it's the little things I am most thankful for; the family, good food, the two cops who didn't arrest my daughter for underage drinking when they had a chance. Of course, it was only last year she asked me, “Dad, have you ever been arrested?” I replied, “No, but I’d put that in the category of minor miracle.” ...

Having just ordered tickets via Ticketmaster, I called to ask for an explanation of the fees imposed. Of course, said the rep, "there's the convenience fee, the ticket handling fee, the because-we-can-get-away-with-it fee, and finally, a fee for charging you fees? Is there a fee for that?" I asked. "Of course." Ticketmaster uses a model called the fee multiplier. Whatever you think the fees are going to be, they will actually be three times that. ... There's a Jonas Brothers dog being offered for the Christmas buying season. The same company is offering a Tom Cruise Dog. It barks at you if you attack Scientology. Plans for a Michael Vick dog had to be abandoned because it kept attacking all the other dogs ... Thinking about my success in business, I told my daughter, "I didn’t get where I am today by playing it safe. I got here because my employer laid me off." ... I could deliver all the easy Tiger Woods jokes--He used the wrong driver. He has been playing too many holes--but most of those are obvious and tasteless. So I won't do it.
