EPICOR’S GROW TAKES CENTER STAGE Featured

Epicor’s Grow platform was literally and figuratively in the spotlight at this week’s Insights conference. “We will be able to pull in formation from anywhere,” Lisa Pope, Epicor’s president said during the conference in describing Grow's capabilities.

Epicor describes Grow as a “full-stack, no code/lo code BI platform that combines data integration, warehousing, and visualization”. Epicor acquired Grow in March 2022 so this year’s Insights was devoted more to demonstrating features than in announcing new products—those new applications and major features that were detailed were more for 2024 than immediately this year.  Not everyone sees low-code, no-code in the same glowing terms as many vendors do. One analyst said citizen programmers put many companies into positions that consultants have to fix and it’s no more as simple as citizen heart surgery. The platform will increasingly integrate data from Epicor’s different ERP lines, such as Kinetic, Prophet 21 and CMS. Epicor also noted its use of ChatGPT to provide predictive analytics and contextual recommendations through the Epicor Virtual Agent. The company is not naïve about ChatGPT. During his keynote, CEO Steve Murphy noted he asked the bot who the CEO of Epicor was. It said Murphy was replaced by Epicor president Himanshu Palsule in 2021. In fact, Palsule left to become CEO of Cornerstone on Demand that year. It took Murphy another try to receive the correct answer. Pope says that while Epicor is embedding AI in its products, the full potential fo Chat GPT won’t be realized until it has more consistent performance.
